If you are curious and like reading other people's diaries, then "Bernie Bolton's Book" by Sheryl Criswell Sturdevant is a good book for you. It is a charming little book/diary/journal (Bernie can't really make up her mind on what to call it) written by a kid called Bernice Blossom - but don't you dare call her that name! Everyone calls her Bernie and everything in her life is reasonably okay apart from the fact that her teacher has a new duty for the pupils: they have to write into a diary at least twice a week if they would like to take part in the free Friday, which includes having extra free time and watching a movie. The teacher thinks it will help them to improve their writing skills. Bernie thinks he simply wants to torture them.

Fortunately, Bernie is quite good at writing and spelling (and she is proud of it), so reading her diary is not a torturous experience. Her little stories are funny, sometimes heart-warming and at other times simply entertaining. I am sure that kids would have a lot of fun with "Bernie Bolton's Book" by Sheryl Criswell Sturdevant. Adults won't be able to keep a smile from their face or may even laugh out loud. Throughout the diary we get to know Bernie's family, learn about why she thinks her teacher is mean and see how she gradually starts to enjoy writing the diary which she hated so much in the beginning.
