Sally for Bitten by Books (http://bittenbybooks.com/?p=490)
Rating 3.5 Tombstones

From the Heart is the second book in Blood Bred Series written by JennaKay Francis. Four years have passed since the end of Gift of Blood, the first book. From the Heart is the story of Baris, who is a full blood Vector. He is married to a Bleeder and witch, Anika, but his marriage is falling apart for reasons that Baris does not understand. Anika asks Baris to leave. He intends to do so after he takes Anika to the Lair to be healed from a mysterious illness. On the way, their son is bitten by a poisonous snake and Anika runs away. After bringing his son to the Lair to be healed, he sets out on a journey with Deidre to find Anika. Deidre, a friend, wants to see the world and is escaping an arranged marriage. Unfortunately for Baris, the trip does not go very well. It is clear that Deidre has an agenda when it comes to Baris. Deidre wants revenge.

This is not just a story about Vectors and witches and magic. Nor is this simply a story of revenge, of love nearly lost and of redemption. It surprisingly deals with drug addiction and does so comfortably within the confines of the world that exists in the Blood Bred series. The how of the addiction, what happens during the addiction, and the painful road to recovery are well written. I enjoyed this story and give it 3.5 Tombstones. The characters are well developed and the story moves along.
