4.0 out of 5 stars Fast read

Sexual Content: Subtle/Sensual Language (Profanity/Slang) Content: None Violent Content: None I have always enjoyed the Amethyst books. One reason is that while they are inter-connected, they truly stand alone. You won’t be lost if you’re a new reader and returning readers will find familiar faces. Quinn and Summer had a summer romance that he truly thought would be forever. But as soon as summer ended, she was gone and even when he went looking for her, he couldn’t find her. He’s waiting in Amethyst, somewhat paralyzed and unable to leave, because his fear of missing Summer when she returns is so great. Summer has reasons – although in the beginning, I found them to be a bit shallow – for staying away. It seemed to me like she was hoping their relationship would fail. She was hoping Quinn wasn’t waiting and then he would be to blame. I didn’t really like her at that much in the beginning. But once I saw through the outward façade to the troubled young woman with a boatful of emotional baggage, I realized the depth of the pain she’s keeping inside. It made Summer more relatable to me and I began to see why she did what she did—even if I didn’t like it and didn’t truly understand it. Quinn has to face demons of his own. He’s a writer without written words. He’s hiding in plain sight. He is outgoing and involved in the community while hiding so much from himself that he can neither see how to continue on with how his life is going—nor can he see how to stop. He is an interesting paradox of a man and there’s more to him than meets the eye. The book was a fast read and very relaxing. Although there were some sections that seemed to drag a little, I enjoyed the entire story very much. I haven’t been able to ‘visit’ Amethyst in a while, so this was a very fun book for me to catch up on the small town and its inhabitants. -- ROBYN All books reviewed by Once Upon a Romance are furnished by the author, publisher, or publicist for a fair and honest review.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Reading

Has Summer waited too long to return? Summer is definitely not the type of woman to get caught up in a whirlwind romance. She is a very organized young woman with specific goals for her life. Her romance with Quinn caught her off guard. Unfortunately, Summer wasn’t ready to let her carefully laid plans be derailed. Little did she know how much her life was about to change. When Summer left, Quinn felt like a part of him died. It has been four years. Will Quinn still be waiting, or has Summer missed out on the love of a lifetime? Summer and Quinn have an amazingly intense connection given the short amount of time they spent together and the duration of their separation. Their love for each other is so strong that it compelled them to wait for each other. Quinn literally put his entire life on hold for years waiting for her to come back, and even though Summer continued with her schooling and professional goals, she clearly wasn’t truly living either. I understand why Summer is reluctant to return and confess what had happened immediately after she parted from Quinn, but I really can’t believe she didn’t try to contact him sooner as it is clear she never got over him. Summer finally decides to go back to Amethyst, but almost at exactly the same time as Quinn’s professional life hits a major snag that will require him to leave Amethyst. I was on pins and needles wondering if Summer would make it in to town before Quinn left. While the anticipation of their reunion really added a lot of suspense to the story, I do think it was drawn out a bit too much. I was nearly half way through the book before they actually met in person. However, I am pleased to report that they do indeed get together and their reunion is certainly memorable. Summer has some major trust issues that need to be resolved. She tells Quinn about her arrest almost immediately, but there are some other details that she is very reticent about sharing. While I understand that Summer thinks she is protecting him, I could see that postponing the inevitable would only make things worse. I knew it was only a matter of time before certain facts came to light. However, I wasn’t expecting them to be revealed in such a terrible way. Once the whole story came out, Quinn and Summer’s relationship is really put to the test. Will Summer finally trust Quinn completely? Overall, I enjoyed reading Til Summer Comes Around. Quinn is a wonderful, gentle hero and is a perfect match for Summer. I enjoyed watching them reconnect, and their happy ending is certainly well deserved. Fans of contemporary romance would do well to give this story a try. originally posted at long and short reviews

5.0 out of 5 stars Adventures in Amethyst Series, Book 7: Briar's...Patch

I loved Briar and Roman's story. After years of waiting, I liked that Briar finally could think about herself now that her parents were deceased, and at the age of forty-seven this virgin wanted a baby as her biological clock was ticking! With few choices when it came to men in her tiny town, her only hope was to convince Roman that she wanted his baby. I liked that Roman was an old-fashioned man who stood by his morals of right and wrong, even though he was a widower with a teenaged daughter he wanted to set a good example for. How can he convince Briar that she’d always been his first choice?

4.0 out of 5 stars The author's writing style is easy to read and flows smoothly.

Briar Sankey has always been the most beautiful girl in Amethyst. During her school years she had several different boyfriends, but never fell in love with any of them. Now she is forty-seven and the owner of her late mother’s restaurant, Bea’s Café. With no family around any longer, Briar is hearing her biological clock ticking – loudly! She wants to have a baby before her next birthday in October. Having given up on love, Briar wants a sperm donor: however, she does not want some anonymous person that she did not know and could not vouch for his genetic traits. She wanted her child to be like Harper, her sixteen-year-old waitress. With that thought in mind, Briar considers Harper’s father, Roman “Bud” Marasek. He is not handsome, but who cares? He is a great father. He is sweet, shy, loyal, trustworthy, moral, and hardworking. Problem is that Bud would never agree to give her a child and not be involved in his/her life. He would insist on helping to raise the child. Bud has no idea how to talk to his emotional teenage daughter about dating and boy trouble. Thank heavens Harper has Briar to talk to about it all. Harper practically considers Briar to be her second mother. Bud had a crush on Briar back in school, every guy did, but he fell in love with Evette. Since Evette’s death over a decade ago, Bud has not even considered getting remarried. Yet when Briar asks him to father a child for her, he begins to look at her differently. There is no way he would give her a baby with no strings attached, but perhaps they could go out on a few dates and see what happens. **** FOUR STARS! I was thrilled to return to Amethyst and witness another couple come together. The only thing I did not like about the story is the fact that Briar is in her late forties. (Women are considered “high risk” if they become pregnant after thirty. “Very high risk” after the age of thirty-five.) For readers who think ahead, as I do, there is no worry about the baby if the parents pass away before the age of seventy because it would still have Harper, who would be adult by then. That was my very first worry upon learning Briar’s age. This story shows that just because a woman is beautiful, it did not mean that she would only consider handsome and physically fit men. (In a small way, it reminds me of Beauty and the Beast. I have always adored the story and I just saw the newest movie release. So, yes, I may be biased because I love tales such as this.) The hero this time has a little extra weight and his hair is thinning. However, the heroine only cares about what he is on the inside. From my experience, men do not realize that women care more about how the men treat them, since that is how they will also treat their future children. The author’s writing style is easy to read. There is no life-threatening danger, just a romance that will make readers sigh in satisfaction. Highly recommended; especially on a rainy or snowy afternoon. **** Reviewed by Detra Fitch of Huntress Reviews

Adventures in Amethyst Series, Book 11: Never a Bride 3d cover updated 2022

Book 11: Never a Bride

Once upon a time, Ben Johnson believed he had forever sewn up with Layla. But fairy tales rarely come true in reality. Long before her nephew was in a hunting accident and she blamed Ben for not preventing it, the two of them had broken up, citing irreconcilable differences. Layla hadn’t wanted his family to know the truth. Following the accident, she walked out–for good, he assumed.

Charlize Seagrave never fit in anywhere, drawn to danger, darkness, and drugs. For years, she was the guitarist and songwriter for a death-metal band and involved with the frontman who only encouraged her deadly addictions. In order to hide from Freyr, Charlize checked herself rehab. Later, clean–another first in her life–she attended her new friend’s wedding and met Ben. Despite their instant connection, he was supposedly in a committed relationship and she had no interest whatsoever in commitment. If only Ben wasn’t so unlike every other person she’s ever known. If only she didn’t feel like he alone understands and gets her.

When Charlize returns to Amethyst at Halloween, Ben knows loneliness has nothing to do with his feelings for her. His attraction to her the last time she was in Amethyst wasn’t something he was comfortable with, despite that he and Layla had broken up even before his family learned of the fact. But now Layla is implying she’s had a change of heart. Ben wonders if this is all getting too complicated…or if the solution is as simple as a kiss.Read More

Unlucky in love and unable to count their blessings during the Thanksgiving holiday, Layla and Adam find themselves jilted at the same time.
