This novel maintains intense tension and suspense throughout without falling back on constant "action" (something I try to avoid in my reading, because I find it more confusing than exciting). The love between Vincent and Kira, as well as his reluctant devotion to the mentor he hasn't seen in many years, clashes with the pervasive feeling that we -- along with the characters -- are never sure who can be trusted. I sympathized with both Kira's reservations about trusting Vincent while he hides so many secrets from her and Vincent's frustration about not being able to keep her safe. Both come across as strong characters, whom we root for even when they seem to be making unwise choices. The mystery of Kira's origin is gradually unfolded with just enough slow reveal to keep the reader eager for more. Sure, the Network seems a little farfetched, but one doesn't look for mundane realism in a spy-themed romantic suspense story. 🙂

The members call it "The Network", but the covert organization really has no name. The members are incognito, totally erased from the world. The organization has branches all over the world. Only the American President and a select committee in the White House, called Oversight, even know it exists. The people of The Network often "neutralize" anyone, even the innocent, in order to preserve the organization's invisibility and remove any threat of exposure. But when a ten-year-old girl witnesses her father shot down in cold blood, one member of The Network decides to disappear with her, instead of allowing the child to be neutralized. Kira Gunn is twenty-five and already owns a multi billion-dollar corporation. But of her twenty-five years of life, she can only remember the last fifteen. Everything else is a blank. The only constant thing in her life is a man named Vincent Carson. For as long as Kira can recall, Vincent has been there. He cares for her every need. He home schooled her. He helped her begin her business from scratch. He even taught her to use and clean firearms. But most importantly, Vincent hold and soothes her every time she has the nightmares that trigger her seizures. Those occur every time she dreams. But the time Vincent has been dreading has finally arrived. Kira wants answers. When she learns who Vincent really is and all he has done (and is still doing) to protect her, will she still care for him? Or will she run in horror? ***** This is the first book in the Incognito Series. I found it to be a very solid foundation for what could very well turn out to be one of the best romantic suspense novels of the year. Fifteen years and Vincent Carson - that is all that Kira Gunn knew about her life. She was twenty-five years old, but she couldn't remember anything before that day when sixteen-year-old Vincent rescued her. She didn't know her true name, who her parents were, or where she was from. She knew that they had run when Vincent first found her. He had also taught her how to protect herself, and where to go if he sensed danger. But what was this danger? She ran a large corporation, wasn't totally inconspicuous, but nobody had ever disturbed their lives. Could she truly trust Vincent? As Kira starts to exert her wishes to learn more about her past, Vincent keeps pushing back, avoiding her questions, and preventing her from learning more. Kira doesn't know if this is because there truly is someone after them, or maybe Vincent himself was not someone she should trust. No Ordinary Love was an emotional read. It is obvious that Vincent's entire world revolves around Kira. He gave up everything to focus on Kira's safety, well-being, and happiness. He had devoted everything he was to her. For him, this should be enough, but Kira needs more. She wants to know what happened all those years ago. Since nothing has threatened them since, she believes the past is over and they are safe. Personally, I was firmly in Vincent's corner. He is a hero any woman would be thrilled to have. While I could understand Kira's uncertainties, I couldn't help but feel she acted a bit like a spoiled child. Still, I could excuse her, to some extent, since there was no way for Kira to truly comprehend the enormity of their danger when Vincent wasn't completely open with her. No Ordinary Love was also a thrilling suspense as Vincent and Kira face the past. It is unknown if anyone can be considered friend, but everyone is a potential foe. Without giving spoilers, I will simply say I loved the help they received. It was unique. I am thrilled that additional stories in this series are already available and am eager to read them. Vincent has been taking care of Kira since she was a child and knows her better than she knows herself. Vincent always seems to anticipate what Kira wants or needs and provides it for her before she can ask. Although they have never been intimate together, Kira hasn't been able to stop her feelings from developing towards him and wonders if he feels the same way towards her since he has made no outward show of them. Kira doesn't understand why she has been feeling the need to pull away from Vincent since she loves him very much and can't picture her life without him. She wonders if it has anything to do with her memory loss for the time leading up to when she met Vincent. When Kira discovers that the nightmares she has had since childhood are really memories of the night her father was killed and Vincent was there, she gives Vincent an ultimatum to either help her find out what happened to her father or she will cut him out of her life completely. This decision to learn the truth will soon lead Kira and Vincent on a dangerous, life threatening mission to an organization that is known to only a few people as the Network. No Ordinary Love is the first book in the Incognito series. This fantastic, action packed story is one that I will be keeping in my favorites file. These well described and highly developed characters have such an emotional bond between them that it brought tears to my eyes many times while reading this tale. No Ordinary Love has a lot going on as it lays the foundation for the series and details the mysterious organization, the Network for readers. This story for me was one that I didn't want to put down and when I absolutely had to, it kept calling my name until I could get back to it. Teenager Vincent Carson took in ten years old Kira Gunn, who does not remember anything about her life before she began her Manhattan odyssey. Now fifteen years later, Kira is considered a top fashion designer, but does not know her roots or how she feels about Vincent. She craves the truth, but fears that the overly protective Vincent might be the enemy though she admits that sounds paranoid as he has been her guardian angel. Vincent is obsessed with keeping Kira safe. He realizes she desperately seeks to know who she is and why she was alone until he saved her life. His fear is that if she insists on investigating her past, they will come to kill them. Not worried about his own life, Vincent must persuade Kira to give it up though that has become an issue, the first one to threaten their relationship. They still look for her and him as he disobeyed their order. His feelings ironically have matured from cherished older brother to beloved father to hopefully he dreams of loving mate, but deep in his gut he believes that will never happen as protecting her is his only allowance. NO ORDINARY LOVE, the first book of the Incognito series, is a superb romantic suspense thriller that has the audience wondering what is going on from the prologue in which an agent of an unnamed (at that point) group realizes what happened. The exhilarating story line never slows down until the final confrontation as Kira's thirst for her heritage leads her and her champion from relative safety into dangerous situations. The cast especially the lead duo and the agent searching for them seems genuine, which in turn makes the conspiratorial cover-up by a clandestine group feel real too. As always Karen Wiesner writes a must read for sub-genre fans. Harriet Klausner
